Book Clubs and Book Exchanges for English Speakers in Israel

Book Clubs

There are many books clubs throughout the country. They take various forms. Some read and discuss the same book. Some use the nominal fees for membership to buy books that they then make available on a rotating basis to their members.

Check the local chapters of AACI and ESRA for more information.

Tel Aviv's Silent Book Club meets once a month to "read together your own book of preference over a cup of tea, coffee or glass of wine. We don't have any book assignment and the aim is to read with like-minded people and to discuss our book of interests, exchange books and give book suggestions."

Meetup.com also lists a number of book clubs in the Tel Aviv area.

"
We meet monthly on Fridays to discuss books and have a relaxed time together. Because life is hard we tend to read books on the lighter     side — but not beach reads. We collectively decide on book genres each month and previous selections have included everything from sentient AIs, zombies and serial killer killers! The book club was created as a way to get different aged people involved together— but we won’t check ID."

There's an English language creative writers group in Haifa that meets at the ESRA second-hand bookshop and one in Beersheva.

There is a discussion group about books in Israel called the Israeli Book Exchange.

Book Exchanges

The Janglo discussion group, an online forum for English-speakers in Jerusalem, often has notices about book swaps and sales.
