Book Clubs and Book Exchanges for English Speakers in Israel
Book Clubs
There are many books clubs throughout the country. They take various forms. Some read and discuss the same book. Some use the nominal fees for membership to buy books that they then make available on a rotating basis to their members. Examples include:
Jerusalem
The Classic Book Club of AACI, which meets in the Amit-AACI Library on 37 Pierre Koenig Street.
Tel Aviv
ESRA's Book 'n Chat meets the first Sunday of every month.
Ashkelon
The English Speakers of Ashkelon hold a monthly book club. For details, check the For Your Information section in the back of the Metro supplement to Friday's Jerusalem Post.
Rehovot
ESRA has a book group that meets on the second Tuesday of the month.
There is also a nationwide discussion group hosted on Yahoo called BooksIsrael that discusses anything having to do with books. Another discussion group is the Israeli Book Exchange.
Book Exchanges
The Janglo discussion group, an online forum for English-speakers in Jerusalem, often has notices about book swaps and sales. There is a comparable discussion group for Tel Aviv called Tanglo. There is a national discussion group at Israel Ads that also posts information about book swaps and sales.
